Soil Anniversary 2025 was once again held as an annual agenda of the extended family of the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This event served as a moment of togetherness as well as a reflection on the long journey of the Soil Science Study Program in advancing education, research, and community service. The main event, held on 29 November 2025, was attended by students, alumni, and members of the academic community and took place in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere.

On Tuesday, 25 November 2025 at 09.00 a.m. WIB, the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada held a public lecture themed “From Knowledge to Business.” The event featured Brian Rhodes Thorrington, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Auckland, New Zealand, as the keynote speaker. The lecture took place at the MMA Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, and was attended by Soil Science students from undergraduate (S1), master’s (S2), and doctoral (S3) programs.
On 27 April 2025, the Hardjono Danoesastro Auditorium at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), served as the venue for a highly anticipated Family Gathering organized by KMIT UGM under the leadership of the Aruna Adhibrata Cabinet. This work program was part of the Student Resource Development (PSDM) division and aimed to strengthen relationships among students, educational staff, and lecturers of the Department of Soil Science, UGM.
The Family Gathering was designed as a syawalan event, a traditional celebration marking the conclusion of the Idul Fitri festivities. The event provided an opportunity for active Soil Science students from various cohorts to come together, share experiences, and build a sense of togetherness. The program featured a series of engaging activities, including communal meals, game sessions, and a mutual forgiveness ceremony. These activities were intended to enhance collaboration between students and faculty, creating a supportive environment that encourages both academic and personal growth. By bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds, the Family Gathering sought to promote mutual understanding and cooperation, which are essential elements of development at both local and global levels.
In a remarkable display of community spirit and solidarity, KMIT UGM, under the leadership of the Aruna Adhibrata Cabinet for the 2024/2025 period, launched a social initiative entitled “KMIT Berbagi.” Organized by the Social and Community Affairs Division, this program aimed to share with those in need, particularly individuals living around Jalan Monjali and at Griya Yatim & Dhuafa Tamansiswa.
The KMIT Berbagi program consisted of several activities, including donation collection, distribution of iftar meals on the streets, and a communal iftar event at Griya Yatim & Dhuafa Tamansiswa. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting social equity and reducing poverty in developing countries.
On Monday, 10 February 2025, a handover ceremony was held at the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Magelang Regency for nine students who will participate in the MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) internship program. The event was attended by Ms. Nur Ainun Harlin Jennie Pulungan, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. as a representative of the Department of Soil Science, the MBKM internship students, and representatives from BPBD Magelang Regency. The handover aimed to encourage collaboration between academic institutions and local government agencies, ensuring that students gain practical experience while contributing to disaster management efforts in the region.
On 21 November 2024, an important activity took place in Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi, where a team led by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Junun Sartohadi, M.Sc. conducted a rapid reconnaissance soil survey aimed at supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 related to agriculture. This initiative was crucial for understanding soil health and fertility, which are fundamental to sustainable agricultural practices in the region. The activity was part of efforts to support the implementation of a Detailed Investigation Study (SID) in order to generate in-depth data on soil characteristics, land fertility potential, and soil management challenges in the area. Banggai Regency has highly diverse topography, ranging from lowlands to mountainous areas, resulting in complex geographic conditions. This diversity makes the region strategically important for various development potentials such as agriculture, forestry, and infrastructure, while simultaneously posing challenges for spatial planning and natural resource management.
Departemen Tanah, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) kembali mengadakan Writing Workshop bertajuk “How to Make an Effective Manuscript for Publication in Reputable Journals”. Kegiatan ini menghadirkan Prof. Cheng-I Hsieh dari National Taiwan University (NTU), seorang pakar di bidang Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering, yang memiliki pengalaman luas dalam penulisan akademik.
Workshop kedua ini dilaksanakan pada Rabu, 31 Juli 2024 di Classroom 5, Gedung Agrotropica Learning Center (AGLC), Fakultas Pertanian UGM. Dalam sesi ini, Prof. Cheng-I Hsieh berbagi strategi untuk membuat naskah akademik yang efektif melalui seni story telling. Peserta mendapat wawasan penting mengenai cara menyusun penelitian, meningkatkan alur narasi, serta komunikasi hasil penelitian yang lebih baik.
Pada Selasa, 30 Juli 2024, Departemen Tanah, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) sukses menggelar acara Yudisium untuk Program Sarjana (S1) dan Pascasarjana (S2). Kegiatan ini diselenggarakan di Ruang KPTU, Gedung A1, Fakultas Pertanian UGM, dihadiri oleh sejumlah dosen Departemen Tanah serta mahasiswa S1 dan S2 yang telah resmi menyelesaikan masa studi mereka.
Dalam acara Yudisium Periode II Juli 2024 ini, sejumlah 7 mahasiswa Program Sarjana diresmikan menyandang gelar Sarjana dan 11 mahasiswa Program Pascasarjana resmi menyandang gelar Magister. Acara berlangsung khidmat, dan setiap perwakilan mahasiswa dari kedua jenjang studi menyampaikan sambutan, mengungkapkan rasa syukur mereka serta harapan untuk bisa berkontribusi nyata bagi masyarakat dan dunia pertanian. Para lulusan berkomitmen untuk menerapkan pengetahuan yang telah mereka peroleh selama studi untuk membantu meningkatkan produktivitas serta keberlanjutan di sektor pertanian Indonesia.
Yogyakarta, 22 Juli 2024 – Departemen Tanah, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Gadjah Mada, kembali menunjukkan komitmennya dalam peningkatan kualitas pendidikan dengan mengadakan Writing Workshop #1. Kegiatan ini menghadirkan Prof. Cheng-I Hsieh dari National Taiwan University (NTU), seorang ahli penulisan akademik yang telah diakui di dunia internasional.
Writing Workshop #1 diselenggarakan pada 22 Juli 2024 di Venture Room, Gedung Agrotropica Learning Center (AGLC). Dalam workshop ini, Prof. Hsieh memberikan wawasan berharga tentang cara menyusun manuskrip yang efektif melalui pendekatan story telling. Mahasiswa peserta mendapatkan pengetahuan mengenai cara mengatur struktur makalah penelitian, memperbaiki alur narasi, dan menyampaikan hasil penelitian dengan lebih efektif.
Inisiatif ini merupakan bagian dari upaya Fakultas Pertanian dan Departemen Tanah UGM untuk mendukung Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 4: Pendidikan Berkualitas. Workshop ini diharapkan mampu meningkatkan keterampilan menulis mahasiswa dan mendorong mereka untuk menghasilkan karya ilmiah berkualitas tinggi.
Departemen Tanah, Fakultas Pertanian UGM mengadakan kuliah tamu pada hari Rabu, 6 September 2023. Topik yang diangkat dalam kuliah tamu kali ini adalah Pedologi Terapan dengan judul kuliah “The Integration of Soil-saprolite continuum in soil classification systems: state of the art” yang diisi oleh Juilleret Jérôme, researcher di Luxemburg Institute of Science and Technology. Kuliah tamu ini dilaksanakan di Auditorium Prof. Harjono Danoesastro, Fakultas Pertanian UGM. Peserta yang hadir dalam kegiatan ini sejumlah kurang lebih 250 peserta terdiri mahasiswa sarjana, pasca-sarjana Prodi Ilmu Tanah dan beberapa prodi lain. Selain itu staff pengajar Departemen Tanah juga turut hadir dalam kegiatan tersebut. Kuliah tamu dilaksanakan selama 60 menit dilanjutkan dengan diskusi dari peserta yang antusias bertanya mengenai materi yang disampaikan.

Kuliah tamu ini ditujukkan untuk peningkatan kapasitas pengetahuan mahasiswa mengenai ilmu pedologi serta hubungan kerjasama staff pengajar dan serta rekognisi internasional.
