On April 25, 2025, the Faculty of Agriculture of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held an important workshop aimed at enhancing the skills of media teams at both faculty and departmental levels. The event took place at Co-Working Space 1, AGLC 6th Floor, Faculty of Agriculture UGM. This workshop was part of the faculty’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in developing countries, by strengthening communication strategies and information dissemination.
The workshop featured two main sessions. The first session was delivered by Ishadiyanto Salim, S.Pd., M.Pd., a lecturer in agricultural extension and communication. He provided training on OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), a tool used for live streaming and video recording. This session was highly relevant for developing countries, where access to technology can significantly expand the reach of education and information dissemination.
In the second session, Desi Utami, S.P., M.Env.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Information Systems and Media Unit of the Faculty of Agriculture, conducted a workshop on article writing. This session aimed to equip participants with the skills needed to produce high-quality written content that can effectively communicate agricultural research and innovation to a broader audience.
The workshop was open to media teams from both the Faculty of Agriculture and its departments. This inclusivity was crucial in fostering collaboration and ensuring that all voices within the faculty were represented. By bringing together diverse media teams, the workshop sought to create a unified communication approach aligned with the SDGs.
Beyond skill development, the workshop also emphasized the role of media in promoting awareness of the SDGs. Participants learned how to create content that not only informs but also inspires action toward sustainable agricultural practices.
As the world faces various challenges, including climate change and food security, the role of agriculture is becoming increasingly vital. Workshops like this are essential in equipping future leaders in agriculture with the tools they need to address these challenges effectively.
In conclusion, the Media Workshop at the Faculty of Agriculture UGM represents a significant step toward improving communication skills among agricultural professionals. With its focus on practical training and collaboration, the workshop aims to contribute to the broader goals of sustainable development, particularly in developing countries. This activity also supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
